WHAT"S NEW! New classes start from 13th July with a performance planned for November.
The Salsa Stepz Program- A new concept in sports training
The Salsa Stepz Program is currently being used with soccer clubs in Melbourne.
The program involves the teaching of salsa and other Latin dance steps which are linked to and compliment the skills players have gained through soccer training. These include lower body movement, specific footwork, loosening of the hips, balance and co-ordination. The steps and sequences are clearly explained and demonstrated before set to music. An improvement in the players' flexibility and fluidity has been seen as a result of the techniques taught in the clinic.
What is salsa?
Salsa dancing is a blend of physical, mental and social activity that incorporates having fun while moving to the beat, tempo and rhythm of music. It improves strength, balance and coordination as well as control of the body. Through dance, students develop positive self esteem, confidence and improve their learning skills as steps and routines are memorized.
At Salsa4kidz we offer a series of sequential, guided lessons that focus on basic steps leading to technical and performance skills. The principle teacher, Jorge, enjoys sharing his passion for dancing and Latino music with his students. Jorge and Marie work together to teach and demonstrate the steps and techniques.

The benefits of salsa dancing for kids
At Salsa4kidz we aim to give your child a taste of the social fun of salsa along with the excellent physical benefits in maintaining healthy fitness, co-ordination and awareness of dance as an enjoyable part of your child’s entire life. Salsa can be a solo, partner and/or group activity and it is a wonderful way for children to practise and develop team spirit and social skills.
Salsa dancing can be linked to the Performing Arts (Music) and Physical Education within The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). It compliments musical instrument learning and the development of musicality. It can also assist in the child’s development of agility, grace and control of the body. The learning of steps and sequences involves a cognitive challenge and improves the brain's ability to remember and recall.
There are health benefits associated with salsa dancing. It is effective at improving body image, self-esteem, attentiveness and communication skills. Moving rhythmically and creatively encourages self-expression and opens up new ways of thinking and doing, diminishes anxiety, and increases energy.
On a physical level, salsa dancing provides the benefits of exercise: improved health, well-being, coordination, and muscle tone. On an emotional level, it helps children feel more joyful and confident and allows them to explore such issues as anger and frustration, that may be too difficult to explore verbally. On a mental level, salsa dancing seeks to enhance cognitive learning. Most importantly, salsa dancing allows children to interact, feel good about themselves and have fun in a comfortable and safe setting.
